Plateau, oh how I love thee

MONTREAL - Hey all, my name is Sam ‘Fourns’ Fournier. I’m 21 and I’ve worked in the restaurant/bar industry since I was 16. I’ve been a dishwasher, a busboy, a waiter and now a bartender; I’m a foodie who knows the business.

My pick for exceptional find of the week: Bistro Blanc Rouge. Its restaurants like these that make the Plateau one of the slickest neighbourhoods in North America. Playing seemingly nothing but Canadian Indie rock, the soundtrack alone is worth a visit to this beautifully decorated, rustic homage to “Mamma’s” Italian fare.

It’s always a good sign when the food isn’t all you’re raving about. The ambiance this place exudes on Fridays and Saturdays is spectacular. The pre-clubbing crowd is out in force; visualize the third picture filled with people. By 8:00, one will likely be very hard-pressed to find a table. The manager tells me it’s not uncommon for people to come in at 6:00 and be frustrated by the fact that though the restaurant seems empty, all the tables are reserved for people yet to arrive. He implores prospective customers to reserve in advance. Gentleman’s notice: ladies are on the prowl for dance partners for the night ahead.

Lastly, the service staff are friendly and astute. However, the place is a BYOB so the service, while attentive, is not fawning. To put everything in perspective: Pros: -Great Food -Great Ambiance -Good Service

Cons: -Can sometimes be a touch pricey for what it is
-Can get loud, but this is part of the experience
