Food. Art. Life. - A Day at the ArtSplash Centre

BARBADOS - Food and art...in my mind, a perfect combination. The newly opened ArtSplash Centre located on Hastings Main Road offers a relaxing space for creative minds and curious individuals. Housed in a vibrant pink building which doubles as apartments for rent upstairs, the ArtSplash centre is home to a studio, gallery and small cafe. Throughout the week, the studio is utilised for evening yoga and pilates classes as well as art classes for young children. As you enter the centre, the strategically placed billboard is great for finding information on classes, events etc. Come and join fellow yogis and enthusiasts for a good time in a comfortable environment! Newcomers (like me) always welcome! I am hoping that soon I will be able to touch my toes with ease (yoga here I come!).

In addition to the regular classes, visitors to the centre are always invited to walk through the adjoining gallery. Showcasing upcoming local artists, this is the ideal place to find exceptional Bajan talent. The gallery space is also available for rent to artists interested in running exhibitions. Definitely a chance to see some of the best that Barbados has to offer.

Knowing that yoga and art viewing can be tough work, the ArtSplash cafe is ideally placed between the studio and the gallery. Offering simple, tasty fare, the cafe is a no frills, homestyle kitchen, manned by extremely pleasant staff. The toasted sandwiches are basic but so good – ham and melted cheese is always a winner in my book. The smoothies are all natural and blended right in front of you and the ginger and carrot juice is a DEFINITE must have!

To top it all off, the ArtSplash cafe offers homemade iced cupcakes - heavenly! With unique combinations like a banana cupcake with blueberry icing, these are the reason I find it so hard to leave whenever I stop by. Fresh smoothies, homemade cupcakes, great prices (easy on the pocket for sure!) and a great location opposite the South Coast boardwalk, the ArtSplash Centre is great for those lazy Saturday mornings or ‘just because’ days. Aptly described as simple, but satisfying.
