VANCOUVER - I was immediately attracted to The Dish the moment I found out that one of it's main goals is to produce healthy, home-made fast food. In a chain-restaurant world with artery clogging menus, this place provides a healthy alternative but still gets you your food fast and deliciously.
I stepped into the funky little joint and after meeting their friendly staff I ordered a turkey avocado wrap. Soon I found myself unselfconsciously mowing down on the incredible food. I left the store less than 15 minutes later feeling full, and miraculously, good. I was actually shocked to find I didn't feel the post-fast-food "ickies" that normally accompanies a quick bite to eat. My stomach was happy, my body was happy, and so was I.
With a bounce in my step, I continued down the fabulous Davie Street. Now this street is definitely a community based locale, and proprietor Andrew Parker opened his small shop there, 20 years ago, just for that reason. Working hard behind the counters stuffed with a fresh foods salad bar, Parker strives to provide healthier, unprocessed food for his customers. He also prides himself on the comfortable feel of his eatery, calling it a "home away from home". As I sat and nibbled on yet another to-die-for turkey avocado wrap, I saw this truth in the flesh as he happily chatted with his customers and ensured all their needs were met. You can see his passion for what he does clearly, and his dedication to good food, and a great place to eat.
I've been to The Dish many times, and encourage you to try it too. They have great breakfast options, (and are open at 7am!), mouth-watering wraps, and home style main dishes to entice the taste buds and make your body feel good.
The Dish is located at 1068 Davie Street near Thurlow.
