PLAYA DEL CARMEN - I’m a big believer in Karma.....that’s about as religious as I’ll get. I figure if you’re an honest person and do good, some how in some way it’ll come back to help you. Yesterday some of us cashed in our good Karma chips. It all started a few weeks ago when I came down to Playa Del Carmen to film a pilot for a Tripulu HD show. Little did I know that a certain chain of events may have saved a few of my friends, call it luck, good karma, whatever it was....it worked out.
We landed in Playa Del Carmen with the film crew on Oct 27 and started filming. We arrived at one of the condos I had rented and was disappointed to see that the local managers didn’t have the place ready. They tried to explain to me that it was standard not to include towels, bed sheets, cutlery, glasses, etc... yep, just 4 walls and a mattress. I rarely get angry and won’t go deeper into this because it’s a story on its own but the point is that because of this I had to rent another “furnished” condo.
While this intense shoot was happening my good friends Nick, Paul and their better half's had planned to come visit me as soon as I was done. In between ATV rides, snorkeling with turtles, jumping into Cenotes I confirmed with the guys that the weather was nice and that they should come down to chill out. I would need it, they needed it, why not come to Mexico? Nick and Paul didn’t want to be a burden on me so they looked into booking rooms at the Princess Hotel in Playa Del Carmen. Now I think you can see where I’m going with this...
This is where the good karma kicked in. Knowing that the film crew was departing on November 11 I suggested to Nick and Paul that I extend the rental of this second condo by a few weeks so that we could all be together vs. me having to drive to the hotel to go visit them. It was a last minute offer and the guys took it. They would help pay for the condo and instead of staying at the Princess hotel would be with me and Princess Leah right here in Playa Del Carmen.
Yesterday we decided to hang out at Canibal Royal, enjoy the house music and cucumber vodka drinks. It was great catching up with each other, isn’t this what traveling is all about? Sadly when we got home and plugged ourselves back into the grid we began hearing reports of an explosion at the Princess hotel....the very same hotel where had it not been for good karma (or whatever you believe in) Nick, Paul and the ladies would have stayed at. I may have been there with them pounding back a few Dos Equis.
My condolences go out to the people that were affected by this explosion. I decided to write this article mainly to let people back home know that we’re all ok here. We chatted about it last night over dinner and agreed that when it’s your time to go, it’s your time. So be positive in life and who knows, maybe one day you’ll cash in some of these good karma chips too.
