PLAYA DEL CARMEN - If you travel into Playa del Carmen by bus, especially if you’ve been visiting other areas in Mexico, you’ll often arrive after a long plane or bus ride, and exit directly into the hot, humid climate that locals are accustomed to. As I took of tour of Hotel One in the center of Playa today I immediately felt its easy accessibility, nice design, and great pricing would be a very welcomed choice for budget travelers who want something clean, bright, and new. Hotel One is part of a chain of business hotels that is based in Mexico City. They completed their project in Playa in 2010, and they now offer lodging to business and budget travelers right in the center of Playa’s commercial zone. The hotel is impeccably clean, and features some bright, modern accents that made me feel like I was inside of an Ikea store in the United States. Since I love shopping at Ikea I immediately felt relaxed in the contemporary spaces, and sense that most business or budget travelers will likely feel the same. Designed to offer complete and easily accessible services, the hotel has simple rooms with options of one or two beds. The rooms are brightly lit, with simple bathrooms, flat screen TV’s, attractive wood accents, and a integrated desk space for visitors who wish to work. The hotel has also done its part to be environmentally conscious, asking guests to minimize their use of linens such as towels and sheets. In addition, the rooms are operated on a central key card, which activates and deactivates the lighting and air conditioning. These systems do a great job to ensure that guests do not leave lights or air conditioning in use if they are not in the room. The hotel also offers a variety of nice services. Free wifi, a business center with PC computers, self-serve laundry machines, and a full breakfast are all included in the price of your room. The breakfast is especially nice, offering options such as eggs, pancakes, chillaquilles, and cereals. The location of Hotel One is hard to beat. It’s directly next to the long distance ADO station, where you can catch buses to many parts of Mexico. It’s also just five city blocks from the downtown beaches, and they offer discounted prices at some great beach clubs, like Indigo Beach, Mamita’s, and Fusion. Nightclubs like La Santanera on 12th street are just two to three blocks away, so you have easy access without all of the crowds at noise. With rooms at an average of $65 USD a night, Hotel One is a great choice, especially if you are traveling with one or two people and you want to split the price. To me it’s not only a great price for Playa, but probably the newest and most modern lodging option in this zone of the town. With all of the perks they offer you’ll save extra money and have a nice, quiet, enjoyable stay in Playa. |
