Welcome to Barbados!Published: on 10/2/10
![]() Barbados review: I’ve been very fortunate to have traveled to many countries at my age. One destination that stood out from the others is Barbados……so much so that I decided to move there 2 years ago. Over these past years I’ve learnt to appreciate what this country has to offer which I want to share with you; The weather…….the island is the most southern Eastern Caribbean island, about 3.5 hours flight south of Miami. Have you ever seen the movie Ground Hog day starring Bill Murray? You know the one where he wakes up every day only to relive the exact day over and over….well this is how I feel here, it’s always warm with a high of 31 and low of 26 degrees Celsius…..every day. Safe…..yes every country has their rough spots but in general I feel very safe here. Use common sense and don’t flash cash but I would trust the housekeeper with my kids (if I had any). The government is politically stable so no worries about a coup happening, or terrorist attacks. People here would rather dance and grab a banks beer then cause trouble and tourists are welcome. Travel…..in a nutshell the West coast is where the expensive hotels / villas are located but the water is very clam, perfect to swim. The South coast (St. Lawrence Gap aka “The Gap”) is where the cheaper accommodations + nightlife is located. Beaches are still beautiful but a little more wave action. The East coast is very very low key, water is rougher, awesome for surfers. There’s just too much to talk about in this small space but long story short, the people are nice, it’s safe, a little pricey and great for couples (makes us single people sick). If you want the Caribbean feel on an island that’s usually sunny and warm……Barbados is your destination! |
