The Tides
Holetown | $$$$ | Website
The Tides is an oceanfront restaurant conveniently located in Holetown on the west coast of the island. It draws its inspiration from the sea for it’s décor and cuisine. The Tides is a rustic coral stone building which has been planted with lush tropical vegetation. The restaurant is divided into various areas, the bar which houses the Tides Art Gallery and the dining area which consists of the tree house area, the red tile area, garden gazebo and gazebo. Private parties of up to 25 can be accommodated in the semi private gazebo and the restaurant can be hired for larger functions. The restaurant features a diverse menu and is open for lunch and dinner.

Tough to beat this view!
I’ve been to The Tides a few times for lunch and liked it. It’s one of the few remaining restaurants on the beach that hasn’t been bought and converted to condos. Its right in the middle of Holetown which is ideal for the business traveler who’s looking to take their clients out to lunch or the trendy, leisure and luxury travelers seeking a nice view while dinning out. Their lunch menu wasn’t extensive which I always take as a good sign….it’s better to specialize in a few dishes than trying to cater to everyone’s needs.
I couldn’t help but to look out at the ocean every chance I had. This is the real seller here, eating by the sea is always tough to beat especially when you come from the city :)

Fall In Love by the Water
One of my Favourite restaurants in Barbados. Top-notch service and a great dining experience. The Pan-Fried Bay Scallops are a winner every time. The star treatment begins from the time you drive in – there is a complimentary valet service. The setting is right by the water surrounded by numerous trees and plants. Absolutely lovely – as with most West Coast restaurants, it is on the pricey side but, in my humble opinion, worth it when you are looking for a treat.

The food is consistently excellent
The Tides is a personal favourite; I can hand on heart say that I’ve never had a bad meal there. The food is consistently excellent, the service impeccable and the ambience wonderful. The décor is simple but it works. My favourite dining area is at a table on the waterfront in the tree house area – I love that the wooden floor has been constructed to accommodate the casuarina trees. That said, I have dined in other parts of the restaurant and they are all absolutely lovely. However, I do think it’s always worthwhile asking for a seafront table. If you go for lunch then do try the West Indian curry, it’s served in a real coconut shell and is absolutely delicious. I’m also a big fan of the Tuna and watermelon tartare appetiser, an interesting combination that works incredibly well.
Do try to get to The Tides early so that you can have a drink in the bar and peruse the fairly extensive Art Gallery where there are pieces for sale by some of the islands most prominent artists.
