Polo
Barbados | $ | Website
Polo has been played in Barbados since the late 1800s when it was introduced by British cavalry officers who were posted here. Not so long ago, there was only one polo field at Holders, St James but the Barbados Polo Club has grown from strength to strength with the introduction of three new polo fields at Lioncastle, St Thomas; Clifton, St Thomas and Waterhall, St James.
The polo season runs from January to April and is absolutely gripping to watch. Between 3 and 4 matches are played every week during the season. There are a number of interclub matches that are played early in the season but there is also the opportunity to see players from Argentina, Canada, England, India and the USA. Polo is generally seen as a sport that is watched by the upper echelons of society but in Barbados it is far more accessible to the general public and a great day out.

Attendance is a must!
I’ve always been a fan of going to polo matches in Barbados. There’s nothing quite like watching polo in a sunny tropical location, people watching and sipping a cold Banks beer. Polo matches are largely frequented by Barbadians who are involved in the sport and hugely passionate about the game.
If you’ve never watched a polo match and are a fan of horses, people watching or sport then attendance is a must!
