Kaizen Sushi

Delicious... but pricey

Personally, Kaizen is one of the top sushi restaurants in Montreal (disregarding the price). They have a great menu and always use the freshest ingredients, plus the ambiance is nice. During the summer they have a terrace which is cool, cause I don’t know many other sushi resto’s that have one.

If you want to take someone on a date, or go out one night and not worry about dipping into your wallet, Kaizen is highly recommended. If you want to order in, take a look at Soba Sushi as a budget-worthy option.

Crane Beach

Big Waves

Crane Beach had HUGE waves when I was there (mid-March), and there was about a 1-foot drop from the beach to the water, cause the tide was high. Still a cool beach to go to as it’s very private and sometimes you can find some topless women :)

There’s a cool cliff jump you can do, but I would be careful if the waves are high and strong. Nice to check out for a day-trip.

Oistins Fish Fry

A Must

I’ve only been to Barbados twice in my life, and during my second visit I managed to make it out to Oistins Fish Fry. I highly recommend any traveler to come here because the food is AMAZING! I’m not a big fan of fish, but I had Marlin with rice and some veggies and it was one of the best fish dishes I’ve ever had! It tasted more like steak than fish :)

Price wise it’s not too bad, I wouldn’t say it’s super expensive but it’s average. Great atmosphere, good food, good times :)

Get drunk FAST!

I’ve been here once before a show and I had 2 of the $15 jugs which was all I needed to get wasted! Maybe my tolerance is super low but, getting drunk for $30 sounds great to me! Inside is really small and gets packed fast, so you’re left standing at the bar squeezed between people which kinda sucks but, most busy clubs/bars are like that. I wouldn’t party here all night but it’s a great place to get the night started.

U & ME Restaurant

Great Portions + Great Price + Great Taste!

I’ve heard about this place many times from my friend and I wish I had listen to him earlier. I’m all about eating out for under $10 and getting enough food to satisfy my appetite in which U & ME met both criteria’s. The food taste great but the big seller for me is the MOUNTAIN of rice you receive with most meals for the price you pay! My girlfriend ate chicken fried rice which cost around $6.50 and she has enough for 3 meals!! Friendly and fast service which is also a big bonus, but the only bad thing I can think of is that the restaurant is like most Chinese restaurants, not clean! (Sorry to stereotype, but it’s true the majority of the time!) It’s not THAT bad though, just your typical Chinese restaurant. Everyone who’s craving Chinese food should give U & ME a go, I’m 99% sure you’ll be satisfied!

Burgundy Lion

Nice Pub, mediocre location

I`ve been to Burgundy Lion a handful of times but I`ve always enjoyed my time spent there. Once it starts getting busy I can`t help but to feel a bit like I`m at B-Side where the place is fairly narrow and you can`t avoid getting bumped into and spill a bit of your drink. The price is pretty decent for a pint, and I haven`t tried to food but I`ve seen the plates, and it for pub food I hear it`s pretty good. Last time I went there it was a Wednesday night and they had a live band which was pretty good, but my friends and I had a hard time talking cause it was a bit too loud compared to when the Pub is playing their own music. Overall, good looking staff, and a great place to have some drinks after work, but if you want to hit another pub or club afterwards, you`re stuck taking a cab on your way to the next good spot.

B Side

Never seems to fail

I use to never be a fan of B-Side but I guess it just grew on me. When you can’t figure out where you want to party, B-Side is a safe choice with tunes ranging from 70’s rock, 80’s Pop and some good ol’ dance tunes! The club can get crowded fast because it’s very narrow and it gets annoying trying to shimmy your way through to either go to the bathroom or upstairs to the second bar. Not much of a dance floor though, but then again you don’t need to be on the dance floor in order to bust out some moves!

The bartenders are hot (women) and so are most people who party there. It’s a bit of an older crowd, mid-20’s to early 30’s, which is a nice change from other clubs close-by.

Rouge

Overrated

Always a pain in the butt when trying to get in Rouge, because unless you’re a guy with at least 3 girls, you won’t get in for a while, unless you’re on the guest list of course. When I go I’m usually on the top floor which for the most part plays the same music every night! It’s over-crowded and the drinks are still pretty expensive. I don’t know why that many people go, cause you can’t dance much without getting elbowed or pushed around, but hey, everyone has their own taste!

The one good thing is, every time I’ve gone there hasn’t been any cover charge which helps. Overall, I only go if there’s already a group of friends there, and no where else on St. Laurent.

Soba Sushi

Great taste for a low price!!

I’ve never heard of Soba until a few months ago, and I have to say it’s a diamond in the ruff! I’ve never eaten inside, and it’s not really the kind of sit-down and eat type of restaurant, but the delivery is free and although they say it will take 45 mins for delivery, they’re usually much quicker than that! I’ve tried both the Chinese and Sushi, and bang-for-buck Soba is one of the greatest low-priced spots. You can get Chinese dishes starting under $7 which will fill you up before you can finish it all, and as for the sushi, the price competes that of Sushi Shop but the quality surpasses it, by far! For $8.50 you can get 14 piece maki which tastes ALMOST as good as it would at Kaizan or Mikado, in my opinion.

For anyone who likes Sushi (and Chinese) but doesn’t like paying the high prices, give Soba a try and I promise you it won’t disappoint (don’t forget, bang-for-buck.)

Santos Cafe

Nice club to lounge around

I’ve been here a few times, I like it because it’s one of the few lounge’s in Montreal that has great music combined with nice decor. Great place if you want to start off the night with a few drinks, or if you’re on a date. The location is alright, it’s in Old Montreal which is cool, but if you want to go somewhere else to party you have to take a taxi, you can’t walk to the next good club.
