My ReviewsWhere locals head after-hours in Playa Del CarmenIf you want to know where to find most of the locals after hours, La Santanera is the place. The bar is located across from Coco Bongo and features two floors. The top floor has high ceilings which I love because it can get packed up there, cool air flow is key for me. You won’t get much dancing up there but no worries, La Santanera has a closed in dance floor on the second level. Head to the far back right side upon entering is you want to hit the dance floor. I’d love to tell you more about it but at this point most of my memories go blank….I think the 20 beers and tequila shots had something to do with it. I used to like going to La Santanera but grew tired of paying the insanely expensive cover charge of 400 pesos ($32.47 US) Most locals (beautiful girls) will get in for free, as they should, and if you’re a well known regular with a good contact you’ll also get in for free. But that’s standard in the bar world, maybe in life too lol, it’s who you know right? You won’t find much commercial music playing at La Satanera. You can one of my previous stories (Mexican entrepreneurs aim for another win with Canibal Royal) where I interviewed the owners who said that this is what separated them from the other clubs. They wanted to focus on the locals and it’s clearly paid off. If you like the look and feel of this club, check out other businesses by the same owners (Diablito Cha Cha Cha review, Canibal Royal review, Los Aguachiles review and HD video) SexinessAtmosphereExcitementValueService

King of the hillI remember driving up the dirt road to get to Bajacu; it was built probably on the only hill on Turks and Caicos which is a very flat group of islands. So if you’re looking for a little bit of a view, Bajacu is about as high as you’re going to get lol The central area of the villa is the very large palapa which overlooks the pool area. If you’re lying down overlooking the pool…it was built so it seems level with the ocean behind it. It’s as if the pool goes on forever, really nice view. The design was inspired from similar villas built in Costa Caryes, Mexico which is known for their 270 + degree pools wrapping the villas. There’s a long dirt path leading down to the ocean, not something grandpa should take alone as the terrain can prove to be a little challenging. Each room included an ensuite bathroom and private terrace which had nice views. You really feel like king of the castle when you’re in Bajacu, maybe it’s because it’s perched up high or maybe it’s the large doors that slowly upon arrival. I would suggest this villa for couples or families with older children. I don’t think Bajacu is the best villa for toddlers. You’re leave remembering the infinity pool, that I can guarantee. CommentsOne of the best managed villas on the island of AnguillaOne of the best managed villas on the island of Anguilla, Cerulean villa caters to the luxury, trendy, and leisure travelers. It has all the key amenities and I loved its beachfront location with the pool facing the ocean. I liked this setup, I never felt too far away from the group which was cool. The bedrooms are spacious, all en-suite. The villas layout is fairly spread out so you never fell too cramped, everyone has their own space with the pool acting as the center meeting point. Overall 2 thumbs up and definitely a villa worth considering for that special family gathering or couples seeking a low key island, nice villa with a professional team in place. Keep up the good work guys! CleanlinessRoomsAmenitiesValueService

CommentsTough to beat this view!I’ve been to The Tides a few times for lunch and liked it. It’s one of the few remaining restaurants on the beach that hasn’t been bought and converted to condos. Its right in the middle of Holetown which is ideal for the business traveler who’s looking to take their clients out to lunch or the trendy, leisure and luxury travelers seeking a nice view while dinning out. Their lunch menu wasn’t extensive which I always take as a good sign….it’s better to specialize in a few dishes than trying to cater to everyone’s needs. I couldn’t help but to look out at the ocean every chance I had. This is the real seller here, eating by the sea is always tough to beat especially when you come from the city :) TasteCreativityAtmosphereValueService

CommentsVery good Indian foodGuv, who’s one of my best buddies, kept telling me that we need to try this Indian restaurant. He had been there a few times already and loved it. So I joined him and loved Sitar! We parked a few streets over because cars can’t park on 1st street….walked over to Sitar which is located right in the heart of Holetowns nightlife district (small zone). The owner is often there and greeted us, very friendly man. Guv and I shared a few entrees and took some butter chicken to go. I liked the intimate atmosphere; I thought it could serve as a great restaurant for couples or small groups. If you’re looking for good Indian food on Barbados I would definitely recommend Sitar. CommentsRest your feet and grab a quick bite to eatWaterfront Café is located right in the heart of Bridgetown and can get pretty busy during the day, especially when cruise ships are in town. I tried one of their sandwiches and juices while Guv was taking his photos…it was cool to sit on the boardwalk and watch the town. I saw some of the private catamarans getting ready to set sail for the day with guests, all from the boardwalk where Waterfront Café has set up a few chairs. It’s a simple place, a good option if you want to rest your feet and grab a quick bite to eat before exploring the rest of Bridgetown. TasteCreativityAtmosphereValueService

CommentsGreat place to liveA fantastic villa community where I lived for 2 years. The staff at Port St Charles is very friendly; they were truly representative of how locals are in Barbados. This marina development includes all the luxuries we’re accustom too of in North America such as high speed internet, satellite TV, security, with the added bonus of being close to the beach, access to a small gym, tennis courts, a yacht club etc.. It’s usually pretty quiet here which is perfect for those seeking to get away from an intense work schedule. Even though I wished daily for a girls gone wild group of tourists to stay at Port St Charles I quickly learnt that this isn’t the place for it lol I suppose that’s what Cancun is for right? They offer both long term and weekly rentals so if you were ever thinking of living in the Caribbean during the winter or for business, I would recommend Port St Charles. CommentsThe budget traveler and locals love L'AmbasadeEvery Tuesday and Thursday after rugby practice, the old boyz will gather here for a few beers. One of the owners of L’Ambasade plays rugby with Playa Del Carmen. The place is definitely a popular watering hole for locals…it seems to have a good group every night. They offer 1 liter foam cups of beers for only 50 pesos ($3.96 US) which is a great deal. It probably explains why L’Ambasade is a hit with locals; it’s a great bar to hit before going out dancing. There’s a second floor where larger groups will hang out. The stairs on the way up can be tricky, each step seems to be a different size….or maybe it’s those beers? The washrooms are very basic….as in it’s a curtain for the guys and a damaged plastic door for the ladies. Keep in mind this is a local watering hole, ideal for the budget traveler. CommentsNice casual beach barIn keeping with tradition, after playing our rugby game vs. Cancun this past Saturday, both teams headed to Zenzi to celebrate. The club is owned by Gus who’s a rugby player. Zenzi is located directly on the beach which was extended a few months ago (see Playa Del Carmen’s beach gets a facelift) During the day guests can rest on their white day beds overlooking the wide beach. At night, the long bar makes it easier to get drinks, food is an option as well. For bar food, the food is ok….portions are nice. The drinks aren’t expensive, for the best deals ask for their buckets of beer. Zenzi has 3 flat screen TV’s located at the bar which is nice if you want to see a big game without missing out on the action. It’s a fairly large beach bar, plenty of space and ideal for groups. If the music is too loud near the bar, simply walk out on the beach and you’ll find a more intimate setting. Zenzi’s casual atmosphere fits in very well with Playa Del Carmen. Comments5 reasons why you'll like The KegWhen the boys want to gather, we tend to vote to hit The Keg in Old Montreal as a meeting spot. To be more specific, there’s a bar attached to The Keg called Brandy’s (owned by The Keg?). I love this restaurant for many reasons; 5. Very consistent with their meals. Mashed potatoes are amazing, meat is great quality. 4. Keg size….yes, equivalent to a McDonald’s super size. You can Keg size just about anything. Keg size your bloody ceasar, Keg size your steak, love it! 3. Right in Old Montreal. Walk along St. Paul Street and enjoy this part of the city while digesting. Or you can walk up St. Laurent and hit the clubs (20 min walk). There’s a parking lot just around the corner too if you can’t find parking which is a pain in the ass in Old Montreal. 2. AAA quality steaks. 1. The service. I don’t know who’s doing the hiring there but they have a tendency to hire beautiful women who are always smiling. I once returned a bottle of red wine that they recommended and without any hesitation they did it, no problems whatsoever. Oh….did I mention that they hire cute women here? CommentsExcellent Old Montreal restaurantI’ve been to Chez L’Epicier a few times as our old office was located just down the street. The restaurant is located about a block East of the heart of Old Montreal, the Jacques Cartier square where people gather in the summer to pound back a few beers on one of the many terraces. You’ll often see business travelers here for lunch, or trendy locals that want to treat themselves. The name literally means “The Grocery Store”. You can buy prepared meals or other items like sauces, cool looking bottled water, to go or of course sit down and order. It’s one of those restaurants where you wish they gave you bigger portions because you love the food so much. Out of the zillions of meals that I’ve had in my life, I can still taste their “club sandwich” desert. They score 5 on 5 for creativity with this one…..picture a club sandwich where the bread tastes like chocolate and the fries are actually fried pineapple. The whole thing looks like a club sandwich from far but it’s a great dessert. Not a super cheap restaurant, but worth treating yourself if you want to get a feel for Old Montreal.
