My ReviewsGrab a beer or try Absinthe hereI’ve been to Bily Kun twice this summer, it’s a very down to earth chill place. The bar is located in the Plateau which is where we all know the French babes hang out. The lighting at Bily Kun is very dark so all the girls there look like babes lol They have a nice selection of beers and Absinthe; yes even Absinthe if you’re feeling adventurous. Now don’t be alarmed, the real Absinthe from Europe is illegal in Canada….something about 70% not being cool. In the back of the bar you’ll noticed a large, circular sitting area which is perfect if you’re a group. The vibe I get is that Bily Kun is a great place to pack down a few beers before hitting a club….Saturday night is their busiest night. SexinessAtmosphereExcitementValueService

We ate heart, testies, tongue and porks bloodMy brother treated us out for dinner on my birthday this past week and I finally had a chance to try DNA. As you walk in you’ll notice that to the right is a pretty cool, open concept….almost looks like people are eating in an Apple store….lots of clear glass, silver, very cool looking. We didn’t have any reservations so we sat on the left side of the restaurant which is very lounge like. Lots of orange, a fireplace, very relaxed. We had a young and bubbly waitress, she was very nice. Turns out they had a table d’hote menu only, $45 / person which included 4 courses. As we looked at the menu we all looked up at each other, we didn’t understand ¾ of the options lol We ended trying I believe it was cattle brain….something’s heart, tongue, a testicle (I couldn’t help but to giggle as our waitress said the word) and finally pork’s blood in our chocolate desert. I kinda liked the fact that we could try all these new things but I’m not sure if I would want to put myself through that many times. I began to look around as dinner wrapped up and noticed that the live, I guess Jazz band?, ended and lounge music was now playing. I went to the washroom which was also very nice but was surprised to see a NBA sized basketball net to throw your hand towel in??? It seemed so out of place. Overall my take on DNA is this. The interior design is cool but the music went from classy to house…the basketball net in the bathroom is totally out of place. I get the feeling that DNA wants to be a high end sports lounge + restaurant. The menu was a little too far out in left field but I do applaud them for trying new things. Maybe a few more simple options would have been good. Service was great….Mom didn’t like a dish so our waitress kindly offered her a free glass of wine which I thought was nice. Will I go back, probably, but the vibe I got when I left was that DNA is still trying to find its true identity….(did that sound cheesy, or even make sense? lol) TasteCreativityAtmosphereValueService

CommentsThe best Polish food in Montreal (so far)This past September 11, I turned 30. Leading up to the weekend I began to think where do I want to go out and eat in Montreal….I was in the mood for something small, a place in Old Montreal and maybe even something Eastern European. Stash Café was the answer….offering authentic Polish cuisine which brought back memories of our boyz trip to Krakow. We sat on the wooden benches in back of the restaurant which was very much like Krakow, Poland. The place felt old (European old) and it was busy. They were out of Pilsner Urquell (which is a Czech beer) so I settled for a French (France) beer which was good. Jon, who’s half Polish, helped me with ordering and we loaded up on Placki (deep fried potato pancakes with sour cream on the side), sausage soup to begin and lots of Pierogis (dumplings stuffed with meat, cheese, cabbage served with sour cream on the side) I felt like it took a long time to get the food but I was in good company. The beers were flowing and we exchanged stories of our days in Eastern Europe. The food at Stash Café is very hardy, lots of stews, cabbage; it’s perfect if you’re planning to go out drinking after. It was part of my strategy as I anticipated many birthday drinks so I needed a big meal to absorb the shock and awe of drinks that awaited me that night. It was my second time there and once again I left knowing that I will be back…..for more pierogis and more sausage soup! TasteCreativityAtmosphereValueService

CommentsChill place on St. LaurentI like Laikas casual atmosphere. The prices are good, I’ve been here 2,3 times before heading further south on St. Laurent to dance. I’m a huge fan of good house musique which is very tough to find in Montreal (or maybe I just haven’t found the right spots) but the DJ’s here will spin a mixture of chill / house tunes. I need to stay here a whole night to enjoy the music but I get the vibe that people come here to grab a drink or too vs. dancing away. It’s small, casual artsy, beer is cheap, and there’s house tunes….thumbs up Laika. SexinessAtmosphereExcitementValueService

CommentsThe hunt for the best burger continues...Every week I do my best to try new places and it was time to taste m:brgr. Paul and I showed up just past 7 on a Weds night and the place was packed which I took as a good sign. There were a few babes here which threw me off, I thought eating burgers was more of a ….I’m wearing my lulu jogging pants and I may have forgotten to put deodorant on before stepping out in my running shoes….. kinda thing to do. Clearly m:brgr was different. I decided to order the most expensive option, the $19.75 Kobe beef burger (price ranges for burgers are roughly $8.75 to $19.75) and dress it up with extra options like cheddar cheese, pickles, and a tomato. Paul and split the sweet potato fries….(trying to stay in shape). As we were chatting I looked around, checked out the lighting, the hot blond working behind the bar and watched the waiters work their magic. Our guy was good; he repeatedly filled up our glasses of water which to me is a sign that they’re paying attention. I like my beers, but I need water. I awaited with much anticipation, kinda the same feeling you get just before making love….you’re excited, the blood is flowing, you know it’s going down any second now and you start sweating (what, you don’t sweat?). The burger came and I was surprised, not in a good way. I mean here I am looking at this burger and the first thing I see is a plain bun that I know sells at IGA for like $0.10….maybe I was expecting freshly baked buns? The meat was soft, the cheese was so melted that I wasn’t sure if there was cheese in it. So I guess the term “blue balls” would be the best way to describe my first m:brgr experience. My suggestion, take it for what it’s worth…..if you’re going to specialize in something like the best burgers in Montreal, go all the way. Don’t buy plain, grocery store buns, bake your own or import them….good bread is half the burger. The atmosphere is great, the service is great, the meat was tasty and you were so close to being amazing but came a bit short on the details. My hunt for the perfect burger continues…. CommentsThis is exactly how I felt.. hype for what ?? and yes we al sweat.. Hi Jazz... ;) A good sushi option for Old MontrealI’ve been to Aziatik twice now, always ordering sushi here. I like the location of this restaurant, it’s right in Old Montreal, about a block up from Rue De La Commune which runs parallel to the water. After dinner you can stroll down the road and digest. If you’re looking to get a little sun Aziatik has a terrace which gets sun in the late afternoon until dinner time. It’s one of the few places in Old Montreal where you can sit down for a drink after work and get some sun (Jacques Cartier square, Versus Sky, Café Des Eclusiers are other options..) The sushi was good, it didn’t blow me away like Kaizen Sushi or Mikados. Like any sushi meal, it’s a little pricey but when you’re a big guy like me that needs min 20 pieces to fill you up and 3 beers to wash it all down….it’s understandable. If you’re looking for a sunny terrace that offers respectable sushi in Old Montreal, Aziatik might be worth trying. TasteCreativityAtmosphereValueService

CommentsLooking for action....Club Med might be able to help :)I did a quick tour of this Club Med about 3 years ago and if it’s anything like the old adults only Club Med Cancun (now a family resort) I can guarantee you’ll have a wild time here. In addition to my tour I’ve been fortunate enough to hear what really goes on at this resort from an employee with whom I play rugby with (we’ll keep his name anonymous). Club Med can never publicly admit anything but the concept is simple….take a vacation here and there’s a 80 – 90% chance you’ll get some sort of action (and I don’t mean water sports type of action The animators at these resorts are fired up, always encouraging guests to participate which is a fantastic way to meet people. Now how these animators, or GO’s stay so fired up probably can’t be written here but you get the point. It’s an expensive resort and on this island, it’s one of the best places to go out. People who aren’t staying at Club Med Turquoise can come party here but need to pay either a day / night pass which gets them access to guests, booze, and a wild time. So long story short….if you like the all inclusive concept, if you have money to burn, if you want action, this could be a good option for you. PS. The resort / island is known to attract French Canadians which probably explains why things can get pretty wild :) Good luck and be safe! CleanlinessRoomsAmenitiesValueService

CommentsMy Stargazer villa reviewThe owner gave me a tour of Stargazer a few years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday. There’s been a lot of new developments on Turks and Caicos over the last few years but only a handful of large luxury villas are available for rent….Stargazer is one of them. CommentsGood option for the trendy travelerI’ve walked by this place about a million times and for the longest time nothing was going on here. Word was they didn’t have a liquor license but now they do and Suco / Koko haven’t looked back since. Suco Lounge is defiantly a good match for the trendy traveler. The décor is dark, plenty of room to dance and they have an area with comfortable seating if you want to be a little more private. The crowd here is older; I’d guess 25 and up. I haven’t been here enough times to give you the scoop on the music but from what I saw on an off night, Suco Lounge could be the W Hotels “Wunderbar” of St. Laurent street. CommentsGreat drinks at "Jugs"The Distillerie gets packed pretty quickly; it’s a very small place that offers excellent value. Paul told me about the place which we now call “Jugs” because they literally serve you jugs of booze. Getting to and from the bathroom during prime time can be a frustrating mission so I suggest getting there early, then head to either St. Denis or St. Laurent. People that come to jugs seem to be primarily young French Canadians (students) who know a good deal when they see one. The drinks here are very tasty! Try “Jugs” :) SexinessAtmosphereExcitementValueService

CommentsI love their meatballs and pizza dessert. It’s a very simple Italian restaurant, located off a dirt road not far from the beach. You kinda walk up to it and think “this place probably opened when Playa was a small town”. I love its casual atmosphere….in Playa I’m always wearing sandals and shorts so it’s nice being able to eat here and not have to wear a tux. The meatballs are delicious and taste better when pounding back a few “Victoria” beers. Make sure to save room for dessert….ask for the “desert pizza” with ice cream. Picture this…..warm dough, chocolate nutella spread all over it (instead of tomato sauce) with 3, 4 massive ice cream balls in the middle (instead of the dough balls we get on pizzas). It’s amazing!
