My ReviewsI love their meatballs and pizza dessert. It’s a very simple Italian restaurant, located off a dirt road not far from the beach. You kinda walk up to it and think “this place probably opened when Playa was a small town”. I love its casual atmosphere….in Playa I’m always wearing sandals and shorts so it’s nice being able to eat here and not have to wear a tux. The meatballs are delicious and taste better when pounding back a few “Victoria” beers. Make sure to save room for dessert….ask for the “desert pizza” with ice cream. Picture this…..warm dough, chocolate nutella spread all over it (instead of tomato sauce) with 3, 4 massive ice cream balls in the middle (instead of the dough balls we get on pizzas). It’s amazing! Found things here I never knew existed! When I used to live on Amherst I would venture up to the Jean Talon market to buy things I didn’t even know existed. Chocolate cheeses, organic tomatoes, strawberries from Quebec, etc… you name it and this market probably has it. It’s a great place to go on a Sunday and can get very busy….parking in the area sucks. I now live a walk away from the Atwater market….less traffic here, easy parking, and it’s well protected when it rains but I just don’t the same vibe or selection vs. the Jean Talon market. CommentsHead to the rooftop terraceThis is presently one if not my favorite terrace in Old Montreal. Verses has a restaurant in the Nelligan Hotel on the main floor but they also have a rooftop terrace called Verses Sky. They’ve kept their menus simple and the food is good considering that most restaurants in Old Montreal don’t serve quality food. It’s a simple place but it offers a nice view of Montreal or you can look at Old Montreal. I’ll usually order their tuna and grab a beer (basic selection). If like being out on a terrace, this is probably one of the best ones in Old Montreal. Check it out! TasteCreativityAtmosphereValueService

CommentsCouldn't get enough of their raspberry flavored beerI was introduced to Brutopia years ago by Jessie who kept telling me they had very good beer. Over the years I’ve dropped by, recently because of a rugby fundraiser and love it every time. They have a cool raspberry flavored beer and great selection of other home brews. There’s usually a live band playing on the main floor. Go upstairs, left side, if you want to have a more intimate conversation….otherwise you’re yelling with all the live music going on. It’s a very casual atmosphere, excellent place to begin your night. You can always walk up Crescent Street and hit the clubs if that’s your thing but firstly, load up on quality beer while you’re still sober enough to appreciate the taste! CommentsI love you JoeI tried Joe Beef with a few friends and we’re fortunate enough to get a table without a reservation….pure luck. It’s a very small restaurant that’s ideal for couples or groups of 4. We sat down and looked up at the chalk board….we chose their oysters, prime rib beef steak, and soup of the day which was this delicious minestrone soup. We powered our way through the meal and I could see the smiles on all of our faces, it was one of those rare restaurant moments when the whole table was so happy they just didn’t want to talk and simply keep eating lol I was very impressed with just how good everything tasted. To me, the real test is if you can remember how good something tasted even months after having been to the restaurant, you know it was really good. Well Joe Beef was really really good. Yes it’s located a little outside the downtown core but it’s worth trying. TasteCreativityAtmosphereValueService

CommentsAmazing to watch every week, every summer.I love fireworks and in all of my travels, these Montreal fireworks have been some of the best I’ve ever seen. Ok so we won’t be Bosons July 4th show but considering that our show happens twice per week!….every summer!….it’s pretty damn cool. So the scoop is that countries from around the world compete in Montreal every summer. On Wednesday + Saturday evenings from 10:00 pm to 10:30 pm a different country will put a on a great display carefully choreographed to music which the public can follow on a local radio station (I think it’s 107.5 fm?). The city will close the villa Marie tunnel (aka HW 20) and the Jacques Cartier bridge where people can stand and watch the show which takes place at La Ronde. If you really love fireworks I recommend buying tickets for the show at La Ronde where they provide chairs and yes, all you can drink :) More importantly you get to see the lower fireworks which most people miss out on when watching the show from the city. CommentsI can see why it gets busy hereI kept hearing about this place and seeing that it’s pretty close to where I live, I decided to try it last night. The place was pretty busy for a Weds night? I tried their Sunday roast beef dinner….asked for it medium rare and received the bloodiest medium rare roast beef I’ve ever seen! When it comes to meat though, it’s always better to be too rare than too cooked. It was a mid aged crowd; my guess is 25 – 35. I like how there’s many different sections within the Burgundy Lion. If you feel like sitting outside, they have a little terrace. Want to be more private?….park yourself in the back near the kitchen. They have a second level which is ideal for small groups interested in watching the hockey game on their large flat screen TV. It’s kinda nice being outside the downtown core, parking was pretty easy. You could start your night here and grab a cheap cab to a club later….or just chat the night away. My only complaint, wish they had more than 1 cider to choose from. SexinessAtmosphereExcitementValueService

CommentsOne of my favorite Old Montreal restaurantsI’ve been to Holders a few times and always leave happy. I love this area of Old Montreal ever since the city improved McGill Street, many new restaurants and cafes have set up shop. Holders has a good wine list, I’m always looking for a good Cabernet Sauvignon from California and they had a few options. I tried their tartar which was fresh. The salmon was also nice. The restaurant can get very busy especially on Thursday, Friday evenings as young professionals find their way here for either a 5 a 7 but mainly for dinner after they’ve had a few drinks elsewhere. The restaurant is very open which is nice but if you’re on a date, you’ll probably want to make reservations so you can get a table by either the windows or anything hugging the walls. Otherwise, when it gets busy, you feel like you’re eating in the middle of a busy highway lol Overall 2 thumbs up, try Holders and let me know what you think! TasteCreativityAtmosphereValueService

CommentsOne of the best beachfront villas in BarbadosBarbados isn’t known to have many modern looking villas but Fosters House joined the rental market a few years ago and I knew this was going to be a popular rental. All the right elements were in place; modern looking, beachfront, Barbados West coast, fully staffed villa. The strongest point of Fosters House is its location…..directly on Mullins beach. This particular area has literally no coral in the water, it’s almost perfect. Now I want to prepare you for this but like almost every villa in Barbados, they tend to be smallish and your neighbors are very close. You have to understand that beachfront land on this island is some of the most expensive in the world. Fosters House is ideal for families with kids. Young couples may like it too but you can’t have the music rocking out too loud, too late, the neighbors are just too close. If you want a modern looking villa on one of the best beaches in Barbados, Fosters has always been one of my favorite picks. CommentsProbably the best cervich (seafood dish) in Playa Del Carmen.I’m sure most tourists walk, or drive by a place like this and say “that place looks like it’s some dudes house” and you know what, I was one of those guys. Then a certain “friend” of mine tells me they serve the best cervich in town. So I gave it a go and she was right….I must have returned at least 3 times that week, always ordering their cervich. Cervich for those who don’t know is basically a mixture of fresh seafood (chunks of shrimp, fish) diced tomatoes, and fresh lime. The key for me and good cervich is the chunks, I like it when I order something and it actually fills me up a bit. I love everything about their cervich, so much so that when I was unable to leave the house one day because of the “bug” I sent a text out requesting that someone please bring me some cervich from Los Aquachiles!!! CommentsClose to town, a fantastic villa for large groups who want luxury.I’ve seen enough villas to know when one of them stands out from the others; Villa Aqua is one of those. Playa Del Carmen has quickly become a top international destination and demand for large, quality private villas is there but few fail to meet expectations. I’ve been fortunate enough to have had dinner here a few times; I haven’t slept over but know it pretty well. The owners are very, very friendly and a pleasure to work with which makes a huge difference. The property is very well maintained and serves as the owners home when guests haven’t booked it. Villa Aqua is operated almost like a small hotel. Each bedroom includes bottles of water, clear options for dialing out, dry cleaning services is needed, etc. Most villas located this close to Playa Del Carmen don’t have large pools or very private back yards; this villa has all of this. The only major draw back is that it’s not on the beach but for some people this is ok….not everyone loves the beach as much as I do. You can walk to the beach though, if I remember correctly it’s about a good 20 min walk. I’m pretty lazy when it comes to this stuff so I would just drive over to the beach. If you’re looking for a high end, private villa in a destination that currently doesn’t have many large and nice villas, Villa Aqua is your place. Oh, did I mention that they have a squash court in case you feel the urge to play at 4 am after pounding back tequila shots with your buddies? Ya, they do :) [Disclosure – I’m a shareholder in Luxury Retreats International which offers Villa Aqua] CleanlinessRoomsAmenitiesValueService
