My ReviewsA genuine neighbourhood restaurantAlthough Cariba has only been open for a relatively short time, it has already gained a strong following as a genuine neighbourhood restaurant with great food and good service. The dishes are an inventive combination of flavours, reflecting Glen Bent’s culinary flair, and are interesting and affordable. I’d highly recommend the shrimp curry with coconut rice – just the right combination of spicy with a nice hint of sweet! The restaurant is warm and welcoming with a comfortable relaxed atmosphere and well worth a visit. TasteCreativityAtmosphereValueService

A clean, spacious and affordable property.Sunset Crest Apartments and Villas is the ideal place to stay if you’re on a budget. I viewed some of the larger properties in mid February 2009 as well as the lovely communal pool area. The interior and exterior of the properties vary as they’re owned by different individuals. One of the two bedroom properties that I viewed had a beautiful garden filled with golden palms, a few coconut trees, a large traveller’s palm and a pretty mango tree which is apparently very popular with the monkeys! The properties are fairly basic and some of them are slightly more modern than others. However, they are all clean, extremely spacious and are fantastic value for money. The properties are within walking distance of the beach and the neighbourhood is clean and safe. There are lots of restaurants for those who like to eat out and lively 2nd street is about 15 minutes walk away depending on which property you stay in. If you’re not a fan of eating out or you fancy a bit of home cooking, there’s a well stocked supermarket nearby. The staff at Sunset Crest Apartments and Villas are friendly and helpful and a mere phone call away should you need their assistance. If you want to stay in a clean, spacious and affordable property then look no further than Sunset Crest Apartments and Villas. CleanlinessRoomsAmenitiesValueService

CommentsIt’s intimate and welcomingIf you didn’t know where Little Arches Hotel was, it would be quite easy to miss it. The hotel is discreet and is across the road from Enterprise Beach, a little known tourist spot. When you walk up the stairs towards the reception you feel like you’re checking into your very own private villa; it’s intimate and welcoming. The hotel feels very grown up but at the same time is very informal. The hotel largely caters to guests who are 35 plus. When I visited (without an overnight stay) there were a few people lounging by the pool, reading and enjoying the sunshine. Another couple sat upstairs enjoying a late morning coffee at Café Luna, reading the paper and enjoying a slower pace of life. I found it difficult to feel anything but relaxed and happy when I was there. If you decide to stay at the hotel, make sure you go for a spin on their complimentary bicycles and go for a ride up to South Point lighthouse – for the more adventurous, there’s a tandem bicycle! If you fancy treating yourself then be sure to book yourself in for a therapy at Sparadise, the hotel’s in-house spa, it really is a little piece of paradise! CleanlinessRoomsAmenitiesValueService

CommentsCaters to business travellers, families and 30-something couples.Although The Savannah is centrally located in a relatively bustling area, the atmosphere is one of relaxed elegance. The long pool, which is the focal point of the modern part of the hotel, is criss-crossed by bridges and sandwiched between the hotel rooms. Although the hotel is relatively large when I visited in early 2009 (without an overnight stay) it felt private and secluded. The hotel is a beachfront property but since the beach has been designated as a turtle nesting site, water sports are not permitted. The beach offers guests a welcome break from the busier south coast beaches and is a great place to watch the sun set. The Boucan Restaurant is open to guests and the public and serves international cuisine; their Bajan Sunday brunch is rumoured to be one of best on the island! The Savannah caters to business travellers, families and 30-something couples, it’s easy to see why. With its combination of tasteful grown up décor and it’s proximity to Bridgetown and the lively south coast it’s no wonder that The Savannah is so popular. CleanlinessRoomsAmenitiesValueService

CommentsI felt relaxed and welcomeI visited in February 2009 (without staying) and immediately felt relaxed and welcome. The relaxing sound of a waterfall greets you as you walk up the steps towards reception as well as beautiful bougainvillea blooms after which the resort is named. The Bougainvillea Beach Resort caters for a variety of travellers, largely young couples, couples with children and snow birds. The resort divides its rooms into standard and deluxe and also has two luxury suites. I preferred the standard rooms which have recently been refurbished but also liked the deluxe suites as they all have great views of the sea and are very spacious. The larger deluxe rooms include dining room tables which is a bonus if you want to make your own meals. The resort’s commissary service allows you to order groceries that are packed away prior to your arrival! The beach has powdery white sand and is divided into two areas, one area is more chilled out and the other is home to the water sports desk! The gardens are pretty and well looked after and there’s a barbeque pit available for guests to use which is a great idea, especially if you’ve been on a successful deep sea fishing trip! There’s a cocktail party every Monday from 6-7 pm where guests can mingle and get to know one another as well as a weekly performance by a local band. A lovely, down to earth resort with friendly staff who want you to have the best holiday possible. CleanlinessRoomsAmenitiesValueService

CommentsI was absolutely blown awayIt’s difficult to describe just how exquisite this hotel is and for once words have escaped me. I’m not surprised that so many guests at the Coral Reef Club are repeat visitors. When I visited in early 2009 (without staying), I was absolutely blown away. The rooms are individually decorated, immaculately maintained and elegant without being too formal. The gardens are beautiful and there are weekly garden tours which I understand are very popular for obvious reasons. The Spa was completed in 2008 and is an oasis of calm. If I’m honest, I can’t think of anything I didn’t like about the Coral Reef Club, the only words that come to mind are “a little piece of heaven right here in Barbados……” CleanlinessRoomsAmenitiesValueService
