They call Le Germain a hotel for the senses, and just a short tour around the lobby can make you understand why: soft jazz plays while warm earth tones plus pops of bright colors tease the eyes, the smell of a fresh brew from the 24-hour espresso bar, the warm fireplace, the taste of a crisp green apple, grabbed from the bowl on your way out the door.
Opened in 1999, this downtown gem is a rarity among boutique hotels, usually located in the cobblestoned Old Port. Its central location is great for businesspeople, but you can also easily imagine a romantic weekend here, rarely getting out of the plush beds. A Le Germain standard — glass-walled bathrooms with optional shutters — boost the romance factor, while a handy light-style switch lets you tell housekeeping when to swing by and when to scram. It's just one of the many little things that this hotel gets right.

Le Germain is very refined.
I visited Le Germain in late 2008 and went for a tour but, sadly, didn’t have a chance to stay. If I did, I’m not sure I would have ever wanted to check out. This hotel is the way you wish your apartment looked and felt, with cool (but not flashy) interiors, good music always playing in the background and apples (everywhere!) to both decorate and munch on in times of snacking need. Despite the odd bits of playfulness, Le Germain is very refined — perfect for visiting corporate travelers who need to be in the area, but also pretty sexy. When the concierge told me that the hotel was recently voted one of the best places to make babies, I couldn’t have agreed more.
