Sofitel Montreal
Montreal | $$$$ | Website
It is fitting that Canada's only Sofitel, the venerable French name in luxury accommodation, sits in Montreal. The brand's MO has always been to merge the best of French traditions and style with the local culture, and Sofitel's new slogan – Life is Magnifique – certainly blends well with the joie de vivre of the city. In its art and warm design, the hotel tips its hat not just to Montreal, but also to the hotel's upper crust museum-district location.
Sofitel Montreal plays on the senses throughout the hotel. It smells good, it looks even better, and doesn't try too hard to impress with flashy rooms. The suites here are subdued and elegant, much like its well-dressed, international clientele, but offer little touches that a lot of hotels don't take the trouble to, like candles and art and a collection of books in each suite. From its Cles d'Or concierges to the soft music playing in the lobby, this place whispers of class, through and through.

Sofitel is the whole package!
Sofitel Montreal is the whole package. I visited this newish hotel in October of 2008 and it was love at first sight. The Sofitel smells good – seriously – and its design really celebrates Montreal, in little ways and big, like the huge colorful rug filled with hockey scenes in the lobby. Not what you’d expect from a chic downtown hotel, but it works. Everyone is also extremely friendly and helpful in that refined way. This is the place where you’d imagine a stylish European jetsetter would stay in Montreal.

Great Location and Service
The Sofitel’s location on Montreal’s Golden Mile is perfect for any business traveller or luxury shopper. The rooms are small but comfortable and functional. The staff are fabulous and the food is great. This hotel is great for corporate meetings. I have always enjoyed my stay at the Sofitel and I have yet to hear a complaint from groups we have brought there. Travelling NHL teams stay here too; my jaw dropped when the Penguins walked through the lobby in their suits…HOT…and it was pre-game so no hockey smell!
