Baldwin Barmacie
Montreal | $$ | Website
Drinks are the cure at this pharmacy-themed bar, offering a prescription for a good time and a remedy for boredom on any night of the week. Ok, enough with the puns. Despite its kitschy gimmick, Baldwin Barmacie is just a cool place to be, tucked outside the traditional club zone on trendy Laurier near St. Laurent. What the neighborhood lacks in nightlife scene, the bar’s atmosphere more than makes up for. With a bright white deco design and an inspired menu of juicy mixed drinks – all served in old medical vials and jars, natch – Baldwin is primed for lounging. Get there early if you want a seat, though; the place is small and fills up quickly with young professionals and the be-seen crowd.
Besides the good-looking patrons and the delicious “medicines” on tap, the standout at BB is really the music, which stays away from the popular 80s and 90s fare. Tunes are a unique cocktail of funk, house grooves and those b-side treasures that make you feel a bit cooler for vaguely recognizing them. Grab a drink before your night begins, after it ends, or devote your entire night to Baldwin – and toast to your health!

The Barmacie of Supremacy
If you’re looking to get away from the regular St. Laurent crowd, who’s now main market consists of under age girls partying it up (maybe fun for you guys but not for women my age looking for sophisticated men), then Baldwin Barmacie is the place to go if you’re scoping the trendy yuppy crowd. The beauty about this place is that you don’t have to wait until the weekend to enjoy a bumping crowd. This place is PACKED on both wednesday and thursday nights for 5 @ 7 and hours way beyond!
Prices are fairly reasonable and the drinks are exceptionally tasty. Try out the Lichee Martini and Mojitos!
Ohhh and the bathrooms are quite funky.

Pure Party Review #10
I have been to this Lounge quite a few times and have always found it a great place to start the night. I will have to agree with everyone so far that it is very Funky and Cool place. A different vibe and the people are never the same. The crowd changes depending on the night you go. Every night of the week there is always a laid back feel and you all of a sudden feel right at home!
I would recommend checking this place out any day of the week, or weekend for that matter. Just make sure that you try some drinks! you never know what you might end up liking better!

Just what the Doctor ordered
Walking on Laurier and St-Urbain at night, you would never expect to find a packed lounge with barely any space to stand, but there it is: Barmacie
A fun place to meet up with friends on a weeknight, shimmy to the tracks being spun by the DJ surrounded by beautiful Montrealers.
Drinks aren’t crazy expensive, ask the waiter to make you his own concoction to get something different you wouldn’t get anywhere else. I’ve had some of the best drinks that way. Make sure before the night is over to order Barmacie’s “gourmet” grilled cheese, you won’t be disappointed…

Nice Alex! I need to go back here, it's been a while...
Bottoms up at Baldwin!!!
So I headed to Baldwin’s twice: once on a Saturday and once on a Thursday. Both days were busy but I have to admit that for my age group (hate saying that), it was better on Thursday. The Saturday was quite busy but very young, so we had our drinks and left. The Thursday however was great.
The place was packed but the atmosphere was great – music loud but not at a volume where you couldn’t strike up a conversation with the person standing or sitting next to you.
There is a terrace out in the back (with heated lamps which is perfect for our cool springs and autumns) but mostly used by smokers. And some drinks are given different and quirky names which really make you want to try something new.

This is a great alternative to the regular club scene on St. Laurent
If Baldwin Barmacie was located somewhere in the plateau or maybe even the Old Port, it would be the perfect bar. As it is, it is still REALLY good, but gets weighed down a bit by the snob-factor of its neighborhood locals, depending on the night. I don’t like pretentious bars, or more specifically, the pretentious people who turn perfectly nice bars pretentious, and I worry that Baldwin Barmacie teeters on that precarious edge sometimes. For the most part, though, this is a great alternative to the regular club scene on St. Laurent, and the drinks are certainly yummy enough to merit a trip “up” here.
