Bily Kun

Montreal | $ | Website

One of those strange coincidences. Sipping a pint in a small bar in the Czech Republic that has the same name as the bar where you work in Montreal. It doesn't happen every day. However, that is precisely what happened to Fabien Lacaille and Bruce Hackenbeck. They promptly thought of opening a place in Montreal that would carry the same name, Bily Kun (Cheval Blanc, in Czech). It was in the village of Loket (which means elbow, after it's geographic location on the river that splits the region), where they stumbled upon this bar where, it is said, Goethe liked to drop by at the end of the day to enjoy his beer. Fabien and Bruce agreed to open a counterpart in Montreal inspired by this chance discovery. Following their vacation, in February 1995, they worked to make this dream happen. The Bily Kun (Montreal) opened it's doors the evening of Saturday, April 25, 1998.

Grab a beer or try Absinthe here

I’ve been to Bily Kun twice this summer, it’s a very down to earth chill place. The bar is located in the Plateau which is where we all know the French babes hang out. The lighting at Bily Kun is very dark so all the girls there look like babes lol

They have a nice selection of beers and Absinthe; yes even Absinthe if you’re feeling adventurous. Now don’t be alarmed, the real Absinthe from Europe is illegal in Canada….something about 70% not being cool.

In the back of the bar you’ll noticed a large, circular sitting area which is perfect if you’re a group. The vibe I get is that Bily Kun is a great place to pack down a few beers before hitting a club….Saturday night is their busiest night.
