Burgundy Lion

Montreal | $$ | Website

Burgundy Lion is the new hot spot for young professionals and is located in Montreal's historic working class neighborhood - Little Burgundy. Little Burgundy, since the early 90's, has enjoyed a revival and has attracted many businesses, restaurants, and bars. It is close to downtown Montreal, but far enough to find easy parking and a crowd that is committed to the party.

Burgundy Lion is armed with an impressive selection of traditional whiskeys and beers, as well as a modern cocktail and wine list. The menu at Burgundy Lion was designed by one of Montreal’s most talented young chef.

I can see why it gets busy here

I kept hearing about this place and seeing that it’s pretty close to where I live, I decided to try it last night. The place was pretty busy for a Weds night? I tried their Sunday roast beef dinner….asked for it medium rare and received the bloodiest medium rare roast beef I’ve ever seen! When it comes to meat though, it’s always better to be too rare than too cooked.

It was a mid aged crowd; my guess is 25 – 35. I like how there’s many different sections within the Burgundy Lion. If you feel like sitting outside, they have a little terrace. Want to be more private?….park yourself in the back near the kitchen. They have a second level which is ideal for small groups interested in watching the hockey game on their large flat screen TV.

It’s kinda nice being outside the downtown core, parking was pretty easy. You could start your night here and grab a cheap cab to a club later….or just chat the night away. My only complaint, wish they had more than 1 cider to choose from.

Pure Party Review #5

Hello again my fellow pure partiers. The BurgondyLion is one of my “hang out “ bars. Every night of the week you can expect the place to be busy with a variety of ages and people to satisfy any taste. I have spent a couple long nights at the Bar. The people start to flow in right after work on a Friday night and by midnight you feel as if you had already left and gone somewhere else. There are women and men of all ages and they are all ready to start up a conversation with you, as long as you are nice! The bartenders are generous with the alochol which is always something that I look for in a bar and a bartender. For any traveller looking for something to do on a random night when nothing else seems to be going on I would recommend checking out the Lion! Watch out for the Roar!

Nice Pub, mediocre location

I`ve been to Burgundy Lion a handful of times but I`ve always enjoyed my time spent there. Once it starts getting busy I can`t help but to feel a bit like I`m at B-Side where the place is fairly narrow and you can`t avoid getting bumped into and spill a bit of your drink. The price is pretty decent for a pint, and I haven`t tried to food but I`ve seen the plates, and it for pub food I hear it`s pretty good. Last time I went there it was a Wednesday night and they had a live band which was pretty good, but my friends and I had a hard time talking cause it was a bit too loud compared to when the Pub is playing their own music. Overall, good looking staff, and a great place to have some drinks after work, but if you want to hit another pub or club afterwards, you`re stuck taking a cab on your way to the next good spot.

You need a reservation to get a table in a pub?

I hate pubs where you need to make reservations in order to get a table. As far as I can remember, pubs have always worked on first come, first serve basis. But I guess this place is trendy and so that rule has gone out the window. The times I’ve been there, I’ve seen bartenders fake british accents for scandinavian tourists and have stood by the bar for 40 minutes staring at an empty table with a ‘reserved’ sign on it, and taking attitude from the waitresses when I asked why I can’t sit there.

With so many great pubs in Montreal, why would I ever go back?
