Candi Bar
Montreal | $$$
Candi Bar is located in the plateau, a popular area where locals tend to head out. Here you’ll find a new, colorful bar serving up strong drinks while the DJ plays a variety of pop songs. The place has a very similar feel as Gogo’s on St. Laurent, probably because Candi Bar is supposedly owned by the same person :)

Something new
After 8 great months in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico it was time to come back to Montreal. Paul, Nick and I decided to venture out in un-familiar territory, a magical land where people are friendly, attractive and the bars are very chill….yes, this is the Plateau. We showed up at Candi Bar pretty early because we heard this place can get packed. As we walked in the first thing we noticed was the amazing colors, the lighting in this bar is really cool. The second thing I noticed was the cute French bartenders that were very friendly, very bilingual, and very cool to talk to. She handed us our giant lollipop drink menu (very similar to Gogo’s horoscope shot menu) and we made our choices.
I went for the man drink, the red Camero which I thought was a safe bet. Our colorful drinks showed up, we sipped it and was pleasantly surprised / shocked by how strong they were. We all kinda looked at each other and thought Jesus, I thought these were going to be girly drinks but our waitress giggled and explained to us that Candi Bar wasn’t for light weights :)
The DJ played a variety of mainstream dance tunes like my favorite Daft Punk, Modjo, etc.. Candi Bar was lit up in blue when suddenly after about 15 mins it went into an orange mode. It’s amazing what lighting can do to a persons mood, it’s almost as if the orange stirred my hormones or something…..or maybe it was my “man drink”. In any case, it was time to hit the washroom and explore the back of the club. You’ll see in this quick video that I took with my Mino HD camera that there’s a great area to dance, surrounded by booths with jelly bean machines on them.
Just as I thought Candi Bar couldn’t surprise me anymore, it did with its urinals. Now I want you to check out photo # 4 And tell me that part of you (if you’re a guy) doesn’t feel slightly turned on. I must admit, I had stage fright and had to take many deep breaths and think about waterfalls in order to relax enough to go. I washed my hands and laughed at the tiger toilet seat, their attention to detail was impressive.
The boyz and I left around 10:30 just as it was beginning to fill up. I can definitely see myself coming back for a night of dancing. The crowd might be a little young for us 30 year olds but that’s cool, with enough Candi Bar drinks and their dazzling light show, we’ll probably end up acting like 18 year olds all over again :)
