Decca 77
Montreal | $$$$ | Website
Located on René Lesvesque just near the city centre, Decca 77 is a chic resto-bar-lounge. The atmosphere is definitely ‘‘cool’’ – dim lighting, lit candles on every table, linens, purple velvet chairs, faint lounge/jazz music playing in the background, granite floors and walls, coat check and valet parking. The bar and lounge has three-seat couches to help make your cocktail that much more enjoyable if there is a wait. Chef Dan Bergeron changes the $35 “du Marché” table d’hôte menu weekly, and there is always a tad of Japanese flare to his menus stemming from cooking techniques he acquired during his four-year stay in Vancouver. For instance, the albacore tuna cucumber, confied tomatoes, nori, radish sprouts & yaki sauce is a standout among the 7 entrées featured on the modest sized menu. Most dishes are unique signatures of Decca 77 and are not something you see in your average restaurant. Looking for a place for a wine and cheese? Decca 77 also boasts an extensive 30 page wine list with bottles ranging from $45 to $3600 and offers a cheese plate - the knowledgeable staff would be able to help you pick an ideal bottle to accompany this savoury treat. This restaurant is suited for the trendy traveller and the restaurant’s lounge would certainly cater to the luxury traveller’s need.
