Tucked into and atop Montreal’s Nelligan Hotel, Verses Artrium and Verses Sky Terrace are two Old Port bar options with very different flavors. The first – a glorified lobby bar connected to the hotel’s fab restaurant of the same name – is casual but a bit glamorous too, filled with art by local ingénues and sporting just a few tables and mini booths. This is the place to meet for a drink before dinner.
For a night that’s destined to last a little longer, head upstairs to the Nelligan’s Sky Terrace, a small but oh-so-chic little patio overlooking both the Montreal skyline to the north and the river to the south. Attracting a mix of tourists, bankers from the nearby financial district and artsy types from the design quarter, it’s a great place to sip slowly on a cocktail and enjoy the views. On a nice summer’s day, when Montrealers and visitors alike seek the sun and fresh air like it’s their last day on earth, this is a great spot to find a seat. Be sure to try the signature white sangria, served with lychees, and a few of the gourmet snacks from the grill.
As it’s open only until 11pm, most patrons stop by Verses for an after-work drink and dinner, then move along to other clubs for the wee hours of the night.

Head to the rooftop terrace
This is presently one if not my favorite terrace in Old Montreal. Verses has a restaurant in the Nelligan Hotel on the main floor but they also have a rooftop terrace called Verses Sky. They’ve kept their menus simple and the food is good considering that most restaurants in Old Montreal don’t serve quality food.
It’s a simple place but it offers a nice view of Montreal or you can look at Old Montreal. I’ll usually order their tuna and grab a beer (basic selection). If like being out on a terrace, this is probably one of the best ones in Old Montreal. Check it out!
