The biggest outdoor public market in North America
“A Market for all cultures, they say? All you have to do is come and see for yourself. Without a doubt, Jean Talon Market is the most popular market in Montreal. It has an impressive choice of products and produce piled high in the aisles. There are a lot of specialty stores featuring Italian and Asian foods as well as a wide assortment of local products and produce. There are also two parking lots that can accommodate up to 450 visitors.” (Le Petit Futé, Montreal guide 2006-2007, p. 120).
Renovated in 2004, Jean-Talon market has close to 450 parking spaces (360 of them over two stories underground).
It is by far the largest outdoor public market in North America!

Found things here I never knew existed!
When I used to live on Amherst I would venture up to the Jean Talon market to buy things I didn’t even know existed. Chocolate cheeses, organic tomatoes, strawberries from Quebec, etc… you name it and this market probably has it. It’s a great place to go on a Sunday and can get very busy….parking in the area sucks.
I now live a walk away from the Atwater market….less traffic here, easy parking, and it’s well protected when it rains but I just don’t the same vibe or selection vs. the Jean Talon market.
