Luna Maya Condos

Albatros Street and 46th | $$$$

The Luna Maya condos range from 1,2,3 bedrooms which can be rented for both short and long term, depending on the owner and unit. This small residential community offers 24 / 7 gated security as well as a common pool area. Luna Maya is located only 2 blocks away from Coco Bay beach, ideal for those who want to be close to the beach but not pay beachfront prices.

Where I'm spending winter in Mexico.

Last year Steph introduced the Luna Maya Condos community to me and I decided to stay for 6 months. I came back for another 6 months and included it in our travel show. Having 24 / 7 security is important to me and Luna Maya offers this.

Rental rates vary by season but expect to pay anywhere from $800 USD / week to $2,000 / week (Holidays). Just to give you a rough idea I’m paying $14,000 PESOS which is roughly $1,200 USD / month but this is based on a 6 month rental. It doesn’t include electricity which can get pricey if you blast the a/c 24/7. I paid my power bill yesterday and for 2 months is cost me $3,200 PESOS ($266 USD). I only use the a/c at night in one room.

What I really like about Luna Maya is that this is a part of town that’s developing. It’s low key, very quiet at night and most of all….the beach is 2 blocks away!! Rather than pay $4,000 USD + per month to be on the beach I don’t mind being a few blocks away.

I just want to warn you though. Some owners rent their units out individually which can make a huge difference. Last year I rented directly through Luna Mayas’ owner / developer Gerardo Schwarz ( geschwarz@msn.com) who runs these units;

Sol 1
Sol 3
Sol 4
Sol 5

Tormenta 22
Tormenta 62

Estrella 1
Estrella 3

This year I dealt with an owner direct which started off as hell. I showed up and there were no bed sheets, no cutlery, nothing….and I rented it fully furnished. After many months I managed to work something out but never will I do this again….always make sure you’re renting a fully serviced unit. Haydee who’s the manager here does an amazing job, she speaks English which really helps. The security guards are nice but don’t speak a word of English.

So overall great value by renting these condos. Just make sure you’re dealing with the developer direct which includes Internet, tv, maid service or risk dealing with an owner direct and risk adding more grey hairs :) You can also use the pool area in the back which they’ve now set up wifi. Now you know where I like to write some of my reviews!

A Week Stay

Back in January I stayed at Jazz’s place in one of the Luna Maya condos. I was pretty impressed when I walked in. Open concept kitchen, new appliances, big leather sectional couch, balcony and two bedrooms each with their own bathroom with a shower included! I did like how the condo was away from the excess noise yet walking distance to the beach and 5th Avenue strip where the action is. I really enjoyed the pool area as well, which is very serene. There is a big palapa with water surrounding it and best part is wifi. I would definately recommend Luna Maya Condos.
