CLOSED - When Ronnie and Joel Gersh opened Java Joe's in 1997 it quickly became the hangout for coffee and conversation in Playa del Carmen… at that time, a small town just beginning to gain international attention for its beautiful beaches and laid back atmosphere. Ronnie and Joel were among a group of dynamic "Playaneers" who played a key role in making Playa the type of place that visitors would leave reluctantly, already counting the days until they could return.
Today, Playa del Carmen is the fastest-growing city in Latin America. And when an area changes rapidly, it can be hard to hang on to what made it special in the first place. It's easy to see why repeat tourists often comment on how much they miss the "Old Playa"… and why they can't wait to hit Java Joe's. still going strong as it celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. First-timers may be drawn to Java Joe's by the custom Veracruz blend developed by Ronnie and Joel, but they're soon captivated by the friendliest atmosphere and most interesting personalities in town. You can find them on Calle 10 between 5th and 10th Avenues, open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Java Joe's also offers breakfast and lunch dishes to suit all tastes. Specialties include New York-style bagels, the "Hangover Special" and a wide assortment of sandwiches. You can get everything to go - including made-to-order box lunches for day trips - or stick around to meet some of the locals who have favorite delicacies named for them.

Tiny Place, but Great Breakfast Take-out
I love the english muffins with egg and cheese! They also serve good bagels and other breakfast food, but I always seem to stick with my favorite. The service is fast and the owners are really nice, so I like supporting this place. It’s small, so I often just swing by for morning take-out.
