Luna Maya

5th Ave and 38th Street | $$$

Luna Maya is one of Playas newest restaurants. Located on the 2nd floor of a brand new building, Luna Maya overlooks what's become the "trendy" area of Playa Del Carmen (5th Avenue and 38th Street). You're greeted by a hostess downstairs who'll escort you and your group to the elevator all the way to your table. This restaurant specializes in Mexican Cuisine. The decor is very nice, beautiful lighting and the view isn't bad either. Stay inside if you want air-conditioning or enjoy the breeze while dinning outside.

One of my Top 11 restaurants in Playa Del Carmen

I’ve been eyeing this corner of 38th for a while now wondering what the heck was going to open up there. Man, I wish they had opened sooner! I’ve been to Luna Maya twice and will prob head there a 3rd time. Where to start..

Well for one he service here is really really good. Playa isn’t known for quick, attentive service (you go to Cancun for that) but they’ve got it right here. I love the atmosphere too, it’s cool being upstairs overlooking the streets below. There’s usually a nice breeze up there too.

Now about the food! I’ve tried a little of everything. Their bloody caesars are good, the entrees, mains, desserts, everything was good! I like the fact that they’re focussing on a few dishes and not trying to be all to everyone. Whoever is behind this operation clearly has experience and I hope that other restaurants take note.

If someone asks me what’s the best Mexican cuisine restaurant in Playa (higher end), Luna Maya takes the no 1 spot in my opinion. Yaxche is also another really good place, pick either one and you’ll walk out happy. I know I did :)

Delicious upscale Mexican! My favorite restaurant in PDC!

The concept that runs Luna Maya is really good, a wonderful rooftop dining experience…you could eat outside ont the terrace or stay inside with the air conditioning. Beautiful decor and ambiance either way. If you want to eat Mexican food as really is, this is definitely the place, impeccable service and attention do tetail.
