Da Conch Shack

Providenciales | $ | Website

Voted one of the “World’s Sexiest Beach Bars” by the Travel Channel this beach side restaurant will have you slipping your shoes off to sink your feet into the soft Caribbean sand right below your table. The key word here is “casual”. Come early and watch local men extract the soft edible conch from its hard and beautiful shell. Brave diners can sample the “pistol”- an organ legendary for its aphrodisiac properties. Famous for its conch salad, Da Conch Shack offers up one of the most beautiful beachfront settings on Provo! Wooden boardwalks lined with hundreds of sun bleached conch shells connect the small bar and restaurant. In between are tables of all sizes, encouraging mixing and mingling- this is island dining at its purest!

The “RumBar” has a collection of the finest rums from all over the world. Ask to do a “tasting” and you can decide which is the truly the finest of them all. This quaint little restaurant will win you over from the get go. Be prepared to wait for your meal as this small restaurant is usually bursting at the seams with locals and tourists alike.

Straight from the Sea

If Michael Jordan was the only reason why I watched Da Bulls, then I’m a conch fan only because of Da Conch Shack.

Fresh service, Fresh Atmosphere, and Fresh food. One of the most authentic eating out experiences you can imagine.

Island Dining at its Purest

Island life is good…. And with a setting like Da Conch Shack you would think a great dining experience would ensue, unfortunately this restaurant falls short. It took forever for our waitress to acknowledge us and by the time she did the catch of the day was already eighty-sixed. There was a big party of people close to the bar and it seemed that they were getting the only good service in the restaurant.

I found the rum punch to be overly sweet and suspect they use sub-par rum for this mix. Although service wasn’t great, the food was. The menu is limited but full of tasty options. I highly recommend the cracked conch, it’s probably one of my favourite island snacks and here it’s delicious and tender, not tough as a lot of conch can be. There is also a surprisingly plentiful wine list for those who don’t drink hard alcohol. All in all I would return to Da Conch Shack. The setting and the food compare to none other!
